There’s a common fear that as AI gets better, people get pushed out of the picture. We believe the opposite is happening.

AI is creating entirely new categories of work, and an entirely new economy around the people whose knowledge, judgment, and experience are helping these systems improve.

Today, tens of thousands of experts are actively contributing to AI training projects through micro1, and that number is only growing. If humans are going to play such a critical role in building the future of AI, the companies they work with should raise the standard for how they’re supported. That's what this program is.

micro1 human 1st principles

Behind every model, there are thousands of people, doctors, engineers, lawyers, economists, professors, linguists, scientists, providing their knowledge, precise corrections, and critical evaluations to make it better. That's real expertise, built over years, and it deserves to be treated as such. micro1 exists to connect that expertise to the companies building AI, and that only holds up if the people behind it are treated with the same rigor we ask of the data itself. Fairness, clarity, and respect aren't a layer we add on top of the business, they're the condition that makes the work trustworthy in the first place. We believe this is the right way to work with people whose judgment we're relying on.

"Human 1st" is our name for that condition. It's a set of commitments about how we work together. These aren't perks, they're the baseline we hold ourselves to so that the humans behind human data are treated like the experts they are.

• Pay Transparency: You see the pay rate before accepting a project.
• Timely payment:  You are paid on a fixed, predictable schedule, twice a month.
• Written scope: Every project comes with clear, written expectations before you start work.
• The right to decline: You can say no to a project without penalty or impact on future opportunities.
• Reachable leadership: If something's wrong, you’re a Slack message away from leadership.
• Project lead transparency: Project Leads communicate clearly and honestly about status, changes, and expectations.
• Expert happiness index: Our experts' happiness is tracked as a core metric, and it directly affects how project leads are evaluated and rewarded.
• Shorter interviews over time: We take interview feedback seriously, and it's already shaping shorter, faster interviews to respect your time.
• Growing expert benefits: You get access to an expert benefits program that grows over time. As micro1 grows, so does what you get back.
• Clear data practices: Your information is collected and used only as described in our published privacy notice. You can request, correct, or delete your data at any time, and we never sell it or use it to train third-party AI models.
• The right to appeal: If you disagree with a decision (pay, status, a rejection) there's a defined path to appeal it.

Rest credits

Rest credits are quarterly cash bonuses (on top of your regular pay) for experts who stay active with micro1.

How it works:

• To qualify, earn pay in at least 4 biweekly payout cycles throughout a quarter, starting Oct 1st, 2026.
• At the end of the quarter, you receive a cash bonus equal of approximately 1%, subject to a maximum cap.
• There's nothing to apply for or track. If you qualify, it will be paid automatically alongside your regular pay.

Confidential reporting hotline

Every expert has access to a confidential, independent line for raising questions, concerns, or issues related to client conduct, project practices, or anything else on the platform.

How it works:

• Run by an independent third-party vendor. 
• You can report anonymously: no metadata or IP tracking, and voice reports are anonymized too.
• Available in 113 languages, so you can report in the language you're most comfortable with.
• All communication is encrypted.
• Available to any expert as soon as they receive their first offer.

Expert wellbeing support

At 100+ hours with micro1, you unlock access to a wellbeing and mental health support program.

How it works:

• Run by an independent third-party vendor. 
• Available to any active expert.
• Once you're eligible, you'll receive an email with the link to activate your account.
• Sign up using your micro1 expert email.

Emergency grants

Sometimes life throws something at you that a paycheck alone can't cover, a medical bill, a family emergency, a natural disaster. The emergency grants program exists for exactly these situations.

How it works:

• Apply through the form below, using your expert email.
• Tell us what happened and what you need. 
• Our review committee evaluates applications monthly against a consistent set of criteria: how urgent the need is, whether it's verifiable, and whether the amount requested is reasonable.
• If approved, funds are issued directly to you.
