Mission

Today, micro1 is proud to announce that we have been selected to contribute to an inaugural project under the U.S. Department of Energy's Genesis Mission, a national effort to use AI, advanced computing, and the capabilities of America's National Laboratories to accelerate scientific discovery and strengthen U.S. energy leadership.

Genesis comes at a moment when energy and AI are becoming inseparable infrastructure challenges. AI systems are driving unprecedented demand for power and compute. At the same time, AI is giving scientists and engineers new tools to design reactors, discover materials, model grid systems, improve storage and transmission, and move new energy technologies from research into deployment faster.

Building the energy foundation for American AI

The Department of Energy and the National Laboratories already sit at the center of many of the technologies that will determine how the United States meets that demand, including nuclear energy, fusion, advanced materials, grid modernization, supercomputing, and energy storage.

AI leadership is increasingly an infrastructure question. Training and operating more capable systems will require substantially more generation, transmission, grid capacity, data center infrastructure, and reliable power. Building that capacity is becoming part of the same national technology competition as building better chips and better models.

Genesis connects those two challenges. Today's AI systems can help accelerate the research, design, and operation of the next generation of American energy infrastructure. More abundant and reliable energy expands the compute available for AI. More compute supports more capable AI systems. Those systems can then be applied back to nuclear, fusion, materials, storage, transmission, and the grid.

The result is a reinforcing flywheel: faster scientific discovery improves the energy system; a stronger energy system expands America's computing capacity; and greater computing capacity pushes the AI frontier forward again. The same infrastructure supports advanced manufacturing, defense, transportation, and the broader industrial base.

A Manhattan Project-scale effort

The Genesis Mission has been framed with the ambition of the Manhattan Project: a coordinated national effort that brings government, laboratories, universities, scientists, engineers, and industry together around a defined technical objective.

The Manhattan Project built laboratories, technical capabilities, and a model for public-private scientific collaboration that influenced American research for decades. Genesis is applying that model to the scientific and infrastructure requirements of the AI era.

Energy is the physical foundation of that effort. If the United States can use AI to shorten the development cycle for new reactors, fusion systems, grid technologies, materials, and storage, it can build the power and computing infrastructure that the next generation of AI will depend on. That infrastructure can then give American researchers and companies the capacity to train and deploy systems that are more capable than what is possible today.

micro1's role

micro1 will contribute experience at the intersection of advanced AI systems, technical data, evaluation, and expert knowledge. Our work is focused on making complex data usable for AI, building rigorous evaluation and review workflows, and connecting advanced models with the domain experts needed to validate their performance in real technical environments.

We are proud to support the Department of Energy, the National Laboratories, and the broader Genesis community as this work moves forward. Genesis gives us the opportunity to help build the American energy infrastructure that will power the next generation of AI, and to put that next generation of AI back to work on America's hardest energy and scientific problems.

The decisions made now around energy, compute, and scientific infrastructure will shape what the United States is able to build for decades. We are excited for micro1 to contribute.
